About Us

Established in 1980, Hamshaw Lumber is a family-run business that provides quality building supplies and exceptional customer service to Southwestern New Hampshire, North Central Massachusetts, and beyond.

In 1980, Doug Hamshaw purchased the lumberyard, and Hamshaw Lumber was born. Hamshaw Lumber rapidly grew in the subsequent years. In 1988, due to the tremendous volume of business in the North Central area of Massachusetts, Hamshaw Lumber established a partner store in Orange, MA. In 1997, Hamshaw Lumber established the Hamshaw Kitchen and Bath Center, and Marianne Hamshaw established the original location for The Cheshire Horse, Hamshaw Lumber’s subsidiary company and a retailer of equestrian, farm, and pet supplies.

Hamshaw Lumber’s delivery service is a major component of the business. A fleet of over two dozen trucks is constantly on the move delivering building materials to five states. In addition, Hamshaw Lumber offers both materials and installation services including storm doors, vinyl windows, insulation, kitchens, garage doors, and more.

As your local Ace Hardware provider, and the largest in the state, Hamshaw Lumber is a member of the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the industry. Ace Hardware began as a small chain of stores in 1924 and has grown to include more than 4,600 stores in 50 states and more than 70 countries. As part of a cooperative, every Ace Hardware store is independently owned. Hamshaw Lumber is committed to being “The Helpful Place” by offering customers knowledgeable advice, helpful service, and quality products.

The company’s retail space in Keene was recently nearly doubled in size, in an effort to display more products and create a friendlier shopping environment for customers. These changes include a 5,000-square-foot addition, as well as a renovation of 8,000 square feet of existing retail space. Hamshaw Lumber has incorporated many products into the new space, including both new products and those that the company previously already offered.
